How Much Is 0.01 Lot in Dollars?

Each price moveMargin needed
Gold$1 per $1 move$4.20 at 1:1000
EURUSD$0.10 per pip$1.12 at 1:1000
Bitcoin$1 per $100 move$0.83 at 1:1000

0.01 lot of gold is 1 ounce, so every $1 move in the gold price changes your balance by $1. That ounce is worth about $4,196, and at 1:1000 leverage your broker sets aside a thousandth of it, which is the margin needed in the table.

Some brokers give up to 1:2000, which halves the margin, so the figure for your trade depends on your broker. The margin calculators for XM, HFM, XS and Exness show the margin at each broker’s leverage.

What Is a Lot Size in Forex?

A lot is the unit your broker counts a trade in. On a currency pair, 1 lot is 100,000 units of the first currency, so 1 lot of EURUSD is 100,000 euros. On gold, 1 lot is 100 ounces.

Profit or loss per price move

EURUSD, 1 pipGold, $1 move
1 lot$10$100
0.1 lot$1$10
0.01 lot$0.10$1

Traders call 1 lot a standard lot, 0.1 lot a mini lot and 0.01 lot a micro lot. Each step down makes every move ten times smaller, so 0.1 lot of EURUSD is worth $1 per pip.

On USDJPY and other pairs that do not end in USD, a pip is worth a different amount, and the pip value guide compares the pairs. To see what 1 pip is worth for your own lot size and instrument, use the pip calculator.

At 1:1000 leverage, 0.1 lot of EURUSD needs $11.20 of margin.

How Much Money Do You Need for 0.01 Lot?

0.01 lot of gold needs only $4.20 of margin at 1:1000, but each losing trade also takes money from your balance.

0.01 lot of gold, $10 stop-loss

Loss at the stop-loss$10.00

Spread, XM Standard account$0.56

One losing trade$10.56

So a $100 balance can pay for 9 losing trades like this in a row. To find the lot size that fits your own balance and stop-loss, use the lot size calculator.

Can You Trade Smaller Than 0.01 Lot?

Yes. XM’s Micro account trades from 100 euros on EURUSD, and a cent account at other brokers trades from 10 euros. To see which broker’s cent account has the lowest spread, read the cent account comparison.

If you trade at XM, the XM cent account guide shows what the smallest Micro trade needs. The XM account types guide compares Micro with Standard and Ultra Low.

Prices and margin

Prices
The prices our margin calculators collected from the four brokers’ MT5 servers: gold $4,196 and EURUSD 1.1203 at the close on Friday 9 October 2026, Bitcoin $83,160 on 11 October 2026 at 12:33 UTC. The four brokers quote within 0.2% of each other, so one price is shown.
Margin
The value of the position divided by the leverage. The margin for 1 ounce of gold at 1:1000 is the gold price divided by 1,000.
Leverage
XM: 1:1000 on gold, the major pairs and Bitcoin for a balance up to $40,000. HFM: 1:1000 on Premium, Pro and Zero, 1:2000 on Unlimited. XS: 1:2000 on gold and the major pairs for the first 2 lots, 1:500 on Bitcoin. Exness: 1:2000 on gold, the major pairs and Bitcoin for a balance up to $30,000. Each broker’s margin calculator on this site shows its leverage levels.

The example with a $100 balance

Spread
The 24-hour average spread of the XM Standard account on gold on our rebates ranking on Friday 9 October 2026 at 10:05 UTC, $0.56 for 0.01 lot. XM Standard has the widest gold spread of the four brokers we work with. So a losing trade at the other brokers costs the same or less.
Losing trades
$100 divided by $10.56 is 9 whole losing trades.

Figures checked on 11 October 2026. The prices and spreads move all the time, so use the margin calculators and the spread comparison for today’s values.
