What Time Does the Gold Market Open and Close?

Gold (XAUUSD) opens on Sunday at 22:00 UTC and closes on Friday at 21:00 UTC.

The table below shows the same two times in India, Pakistan, the UAE, Malaysia and the UK, for the weeks until 1 November 2026.

Market opensMarket closes
IndiaMonday 03:30Saturday 02:30
PakistanMonday 03:00Saturday 02:00
UAEMonday 02:00Saturday 01:00
MalaysiaMonday 06:00Saturday 05:00
UKSunday 23:00Friday 22:00
UTCSunday 22:00Friday 21:00

During the week, gold also stops for one hour every day, at the same clock time as the weekly close. In India, for example, gold stops from 02:30 to 03:30 every night.

In every session, gold moves a long way compared with what a trade costs, so gold is near the top of the ranking of the best forex pairs to trade.

Gold’s spread stays about the same in every hour that the market is open, so the hours to choose are the hours when gold moves. Our best time to trade map shows those hours in your time zone.

Why Is the Gold Market Closed Today?

Gold is closed at the weekend, during the one-hour break each day, and on some public holidays. The time of day tells you which one it is.

  • Weekend
From the Friday close until gold opens again, there is no new price, so you cannot open or close a gold trade. Some brokers close up to 5 minutes before 21:00 UTC, so close a trade a few minutes early if you do not want to keep it over the weekend.
  • Daily break
On the other days of the week, gold stops for one hour, at the same clock time as the weekly close in your country. An order in MT5 shows “Market closed” during the break, and trading starts again one hour later.
  • Holidays
On some US holidays, such as Christmas, gold closes early or does not open at all. Brokers publish the changed hours in the news on their website, and some brokers also add them to the MT5 schedule that our forex market hours tool reads.

Can You Trade Gold at the Weekend?

Yes, at XM, HFM and Exness, on a separate gold symbol that stays open at the weekend. The symbol is called GOLD24-7 at XM and XAUUSD247 at HFM and Exness.

The weekend spread is much wider, however. The table below compares the spread of one lot on Sunday 11 October with the normal gold spread on a weekday.

Weekend symbolSpread
XM Standard accountGOLD24-73 times the weekday spread
HFM Premium accountXAUUSD2472 times the weekday spread
Exness Standard accountXAUUSD24712 times the weekday spread

On Exness Standard, for example, one lot cost about $290 in spread at the weekend, against about $25 on a weekday. So the same trade costs several times as much at the weekend as on a weekday.

The weekend symbol is also a different instrument from your normal gold. If you hold a buy on XAUUSD over the weekend, a sell on the weekend symbol does not close it. It opens a second trade, which you then need to close as well.

To find the symbol, open Market Watch in MT5 and search for its name. Our rebate guides for XM, HFM and Exness explain the trading accounts of each broker and how the Forex FanClub rebate works there.

Why Does MT5 Show a Different Opening Time?

MT5 shows every price in the broker’s server time, and the server clock is often not in your time zone. The table below shows the server time of each broker in October 2026 and when gold opens on its MT5 chart.

Server timeOpens on chart
XMUTC+3Monday 01:02
HFMUTC+3Monday 01:05
XSUTC+3Monday 01:05
ExnessUTC+0Sunday 22:01

So on XM, HFM and XS, the chart shows gold opening at about 01:00 on Monday, which is 22:00 on Sunday in UTC. Exness runs its server on UTC, so its chart shows the UTC times.

To see your own time on the chart, add our free LocalTime indicator to MT5. It shows your local time on the chart, so you can see when gold opens and when it stops each day without converting the server time.

Do the Gold Market Hours Change in Winter?

Yes. From Sunday 1 November 2026, gold opens and closes one hour later in most countries. The trading hours of gold follow New York time, and the US clocks go back on that day.

You can see this in the daily break. The break runs from 5 pm to 6 pm in New York, the same hour as the daily break of the US gold futures market at CME (opens in a new tab). So when New York moves its clocks, the trading hours of gold in UTC move by one hour. The table below shows the times from 1 November 2026.

Market opensMarket closes
IndiaMonday 04:30Saturday 03:30
PakistanMonday 04:00Saturday 03:00
UAEMonday 03:00Saturday 02:00
MalaysiaMonday 07:00Saturday 06:00
UKSunday 23:00Friday 22:00
UTCSunday 23:00Friday 22:00

In India, Pakistan, the UAE and Malaysia, the clocks do not change in winter, so gold opens one hour later there. In the UK, gold still opens at 23:00 on Sunday in winter, because the UK clocks also go back by one hour.

The UK clocks change one week before the US clocks. So in the week from 25 October to 1 November only, gold opens at 22:00 on Sunday and closes at 21:00 on Friday, UK time.

Questions People Ask About Gold Market Hours

Is the gold market open 24 hours?

Almost. On weekdays, gold trades for 23 hours a day and stops for one hour. On Friday, gold closes for the weekend at the start of that break. A separate weekend gold symbol at XM, HFM and Exness trades on Saturday and Sunday.

What time does the gold market open in Pakistan?

At 03:00 on Monday morning, Pakistan time. Gold closes for the weekend at 02:00 on Saturday morning. Each weekday it also stops from 02:00 to 03:00, and from 1 November 2026 these times are one hour later.

What time does XAUUSD open in India?

At 03:30 on Monday morning, India time. Gold closes for the weekend at 02:30 on Saturday morning. Each weekday it also stops from 02:30 to 03:30, and from 1 November 2026 these times are one hour later.

Why is XAUUSD closed when my MT5 clock says it should be open?

The MT5 clock shows the broker’s server time, not your time. At XM, HFM and XS, the server clock is 3 hours ahead of UTC in October 2026. The LocalTime indicator shows your own time on the chart.

Which Page Do You Need Next?

If you plan to hold gold overnight or over the weekend, compare the cost next, because the spread and the swap differ between brokers much more than the trading hours do. The other pages show the gold spread across brokers, your own time on the MT5 chart, which accounts have no swap, which markets move the most for their cost, which hours of the day move the most, the hours of other markets, and what moves the gold price.

Our data collectors read the weekly trading sessions in the MT5 symbol specification from each broker’s server, together with the server clock, on Sunday 11 October 2026. Every trading account of a broker has the same trading hours for gold. The times in the tables are rounded to the hour that all four brokers share.

Winter hours and the weekend spread

Winter
The daily break, 21:00 to 22:00 UTC in October, is 5 pm to 6 pm New York time. The US clocks go back on 1 November 2026, so the hours from that day are the October hours plus one hour in UTC.
Spread at the weekend
The average spread of one lot of the weekend gold symbol in the hour before 17:35 UTC on Sunday 11 October 2026, against the 24-hour average spread of the normal gold symbol on Friday 9 October 2026 at 10:05 UTC on our rebates ranking.

Times checked on 12 October 2026. Holiday hours are not in these times. Some brokers add them to the MT5 schedule of a symbol, and others publish them in their news, so check your broker before a holiday.
