Where the figures come from, and how we work them out:
Data sources and how the figures are worked out
Where the figures come from
We read bid and ask prices from two live XM MT5 accounts on XM Global’s servers, one Standard and one Ultra Low. A sample is saved every 30 minutes, and the spread in each row is the average of the samples from the past 24 hours.
The figures are estimates from those platform prices, and your trading account statement shows what each trade actually cost.
How the cost in US dollars is worked out
The spread is converted to US dollars for your lot size with the contract size and the saved price, as MT5 does for profit and loss.
The round-turn commission comes from each instrument’s commission settings in MT5, for the account you select. On Standard and Ultra Low the commission is zero, so the total is the spread cost for your lot size.
Labels you may see
- Lowest / Highest
- The smallest and the largest spread among the samples of the past 24 hours.
- Samples
- How many samples went into the average, with the period they cover.
- Market closed
- The market for that instrument is closed, for example at the weekend, so the figure is the last average before the close.
All times are UTC. Data received, at the top of the tool, shows when the latest data arrived.
What the figures cover
The tool covers the spread and the round-turn commission for your lot size. The XM swap page, linked below, covers the swap on a position held overnight, and rebates are credited separately on your trading.
Official XM sources on account conditions and spreads checked on 4 October 2026 (UTC). This date is separate from the tool’s data update times.
New to XM? You choose Standard or Ultra Low when you open your trading account, so compare the spread on both first.

Which XM Account Has the Lower Spread?
Ultra Low has the lower spread on every instrument, and both accounts are commission-free, so the spread is the whole cost of a trade on either account.
- EURUSD
On EURUSD, XM publishes 2.0 pips on Standard and 1.1 pips on Ultra Low. Our 24-hour averages are 2.09 and 1.15 pips. - Gold
On gold, XM publishes 5.5 pips on Standard and 3.0 pips on Ultra Low. Our 24-hour averages are 5.69 and 3.19 pips. - Deposit bonus
XM’s deposit bonus applies to Standard only, where XM offers the bonus in your country. Ultra Low has no bonus. - Micro accounts
On a Micro account, the spread in pips is the same as on the full-size account.
1 lot, 24-hour average
| Cost | Standard account | Ultra Low account |
|---|---|---|
| EURUSD spread | $20.93 | $11.48 |
| EURUSD after the rebate | $12.83 | $8.33 |
| Gold spread | $56.85 | $31.90 |
| Gold after the rebate | $38.85 | $22.90 |
24-hour averages from the tool, 5 October 2026, 18:03 UTC. The rebate is what Forex FanClub pays you per lot.
A rebate lowers your spread cost, and the rebate costs you nothing.
On EURUSD, the rebate pays back about 40% of the spread on a Standard account, and about 25% on an Ultra Low account.
Your spreads, execution and leverage stay the same as without the rebate. The rebate comes from the commission that XM pays Forex FanClub as its partner, so you pay nothing extra.
After the rebate, Ultra Low is still the cheaper account. It costs about $4.50 less per lot on EURUSD and about $16 less on gold.
The XM rebate guide shows the rebate for each instrument and the XM rules for which trades count.

Which Instruments Does the XM Spread List Cover?
The tool covers every instrument we read from the two accounts, about 1,500 on each, stocks included. XM’s own pages show up to ten instruments per market, and you register to see the rest.
Four spread figures, four meanings
- XM’s average spread
- What XM publishes on each market page, as one figure for each of up to ten instruments.
- XM’s “as low as”
- The lowest spread XM publishes for the same instruments.
- Our 24-hour average
- Our samples over the last 24 hours, with the period and the number of samples in each row.
- Your platform
- The spread at this moment, on your own chart.
Each row of the tool also shows the lowest and the highest spread over the same 24 hours. XM: forex spreads (opens in a new tab)
When spreads widen
- News and events
Important announcements, political uncertainty and unexpected events. - The weekend
Around the market’s weekend close. - The end of a session
When fewer prices are available on both sides.
XM notes that spreads can widen at these times, when liquidity is lower. When you open a row in the tool, the Highest figure shows the widest spread on that instrument over 24 hours. XM help centre: does the average spread ever widen? (opens in a new tab)
Because spreads widen around the close of a market, it helps to know when each XM market closes and reopens. The table below shows the trading hours of each group of XM markets in your own time zone.
Our forex market hours page shows the hours of each symbol, next to the hours at other brokers.

How Do You Read the Spread on Gold, Indices and Crypto?
Each market counts the spread in its own unit, and the tool turns every unit into US dollars for your lot size, so you can compare rows directly.
| Instrument | 1 pip or point in price |
|---|---|
| Most currency pairs | pip = 0.0001 |
| Pairs with JPY | pip = 0.01 |
| Gold | pip = 0.10 |
| Silver, oil | pip = 0.01 |
| Indices, crypto, stocks | point = 1.0 |
On 1 lot, gold at 5.5 pips costs $55, while the Wall Street 30 at 6 points costs $6.
Where the unit is priced in another currency, the tool converts the cost to US dollars for you. This is why a row can show a small dollar figure for a large number of points, as with the Japan 225, priced in yen.
How Much Does the XM Spread Cost per Lot?
Gold on Standard, 0.10 lot
Spread5.69 pips
× value of 1 pip$10 per lot
× lot size0.10
= Spread cost$5.69
Ultra Low, same trade
3.19 pips × $10 × 0.10$3.19
You pay the spread once per trade, and the cost grows with your lot size. Double the lots and you double the cost. The tool does the sum for the lot size you set with “−” and “+”.
| Trade | Standard account | Ultra Low account |
|---|---|---|
| EURUSD 0.1 lot | $2.09 | $1.15 |
| EURUSD 1 lot | $20.93 | $11.48 |
| GOLD 0.1 lot | $5.69 | $3.19 |
| GOLD 1 lot | $56.85 | $31.90 |
24-hour averages from the tool, 5 October 2026, 18:03 UTC.
Does XM Charge Anything Besides the Spread?
On Standard and Ultra Low, the spread is the only fee per trade. The other charges depend on how you use the trading account.
What XM charges besides the spread
- Commission
- Commission-free on Standard and Ultra Low. The Shares account, for real stocks, charges a commission on every trade, with the rates further down.
- Overnight swap
- Charged or paid on positions held past the daily rollover.
- Deposits and withdrawals
- Free of XM fees. XM covers its bank’s fees on wires of $200 or more.
- Inactive accounts
- $10 a month after 90 days with no activity, taken from what is left in the balance.
The XM fees guide lists every XM fee and when you pay it. The XM swap page covers the swap for positions you keep overnight.

The Shares account charges a commission on every trade
| Shares | Commission | Minimum per trade |
|---|---|---|
| US | $0.04 per share | $1 |
| UK | 0.10% of the value | $9 |
| German | 0.10% of the value | $5 |
The Shares account is XM’s account for buying real shares listed in the US, the UK and Germany, from a minimum deposit of $10,000. Each transaction carries a commission, and the minimum applies when the rate comes to less.
Buying 50 US shares, for example, costs $2.00 in commission, while 10 shares would come to $0.40, so the $1 minimum applies. The tool covers the CFD accounts, so check the Shares account’s charges on XM’s page before you trade. XM: Shares (More info) (opens in a new tab)
How Do You Get a Rebate on Your XM Trades?
Forex FanClub pays a rebate on every lot that you trade on XM, credited separately from the spread. The XM rebate guide sets out which accounts and instruments qualify, and how to get started.
Our forex rebate comparison ranks trading accounts across brokers by what a trade costs once the rebate is back.
To receive the rebate, open your XM trading account with the button below. XM sets the partner of the trading account from the last referral link you used before signing up.
If you already trade at XM, add one more trading account with our partner code GJQYM. The XM partner code guide shows each step.
