How Much Is 1 Pip Worth on Your Trade?

1 pip on your trade is worth the pip value of 1 lot times your lot size, so on gold or EURUSD, 0.10 lot is worth $1.00 per pip. Multiply that by the number of pips, and you have what a price move makes or loses. For example, 50 pips on 0.01 lot of EURUSD is worth $5.00.

50 pips on 0.01 lot of EURUSD

1 pip on 1 lot$10.00

1 pip on 0.01 lot$0.10

50 pips on 0.01 lot$5.00

Only the first line changes from one instrument to the next. On USDJPY, 1 pip on 1 lot is 1,000 yen, so its value in dollars moves with the USDJPY price. The calculator turns the yen into dollars at the current price, and the pip value guide explains why.

How Many Pips Do You Need to Make $100?

On 0.10 lot of EURUSD, you need 100 pips to make $100. Each step up in lot size cuts the pips you need by ten, and each step down multiplies them by ten. Gold works the same way, and its move is easiest to read in dollars.

Price move for a $100 gain or loss

EURUSDGold price move
0.01 lot1,000 pips$100
0.10 lot100 pips$10
1.00 lot10 pips$1

A loss works the same way, so the table also shows how far the price can go against you before you lose $100. On USDJPY, the same $100 on 0.10 lot takes more than 100 pips, because 1 pip on 1 lot of USDJPY is worth less than $10.

So if you plan a trade from the dollars you are ready to lose, the lot size calculator turns that amount and your stop-loss into a lot size.

How Does the Calculator Count a Pip?

On most currency pairs, ForexFanClub’s pip calculator counts 1 pip as a 0.0001 move in the price, and on gold it counts 1 pip as a $0.10 move. The table shows the pip on each kind of instrument and what it is worth on 1 lot.

1 pip, and its value on 1 lot

1 pip1 pip on 1 lot
EURUSD and most pairs0.0001$10.00
USDJPY and yen pairs0.011,000 yen
Gold$0.10$10.00
Silver$0.01$50.00
Oil (WTI)$0.01$1.00
US30 and Bitcoin1 point (1.0)$1.00

Gold is where pip calculators disagree. Some count a $0.01 move as one pip, so their pip count is ten times ours. A $1 move means the same everywhere, so the calculator also shows what a $1 move in gold is worth. The gold pip guide explains both ways of counting.

On stock indices and crypto, the calculator counts in points instead of pips, and 1 point is a move of 1.0 in the price. So on US30 or Bitcoin, enter the price move in points, and 1 point on 1 lot is worth $1.

Is 1 Pip Worth the Same at Every Broker?

On gold, currency pairs, US30 and Bitcoin, 1 pip is worth the same at XM, HFM, XS and Exness, because 1 lot is the same size at all four. Silver and oil are different, because each broker sets its own size of 1 lot on them.

1 pip on 0.10 lot

SilverOil (WTI)
XM$5.00$0.10
HFM$1.00$0.10
XS$5.00$1.00
Exness$5.00$1.00

So the same 0.10 lot of silver moves your balance 5 times as much at XM, XS and Exness as at HFM. On oil, it moves your balance 10 times as much at XS and Exness as at XM and HFM. The biggest gap is the US dollar index, where 1 lot at XS and Exness is 100 times the size of 1 lot at XM.

This matters most when you copy a lot size from another trader, a signal or a video. Before you trade silver, oil or an index at a new broker, choose that broker in the calculator, and the answer and the list switch to its own lot sizes.

Accounts with a smaller lot also change the pip value. On the XM Micro account, 1 lot is 1/100 of a Standard lot, so 1 pip on 1 lot of EURUSD is only $0.10. To see it, choose XM and then Micro in the calculator. The XM cent account guide explains when Micro is the better choice.

Where Do the Pip Calculator’s Prices Come From?

ForexFanClub’s pip calculator uses the prices and lot sizes of our own MT5 trading accounts at XM, HFM, XS and Exness. Updated, at the top of the calculator, shows the time of the prices in UTC. When a market is closed, the instrument shows Market closed and uses the price from the last trading session.

With the Any broker option, the calculator uses the standard lot sizes, the same as on the XM Standard account. The list covers currency pairs, metals, stock indices, crypto, oil and gas, commodities and bonds.

Shares are left out. For a share, open the symbol’s Specification in MT5 and multiply the contract size by the price move.

Questions People Ask About the Pip Calculator

Is there an XM pip calculator?

Yes. Choose XM as the broker in the calculator, and then your trading account.

The Standard and Ultra Low accounts use the same lot sizes, so they show the same pip values. On Micro and Ultra Low Micro, 1 lot is 1/100 of that, so every pip value is 1/100 too.

How much is 100 pips on 0.01 lot of gold?

On 0.01 lot of gold, 100 pips is worth $10.00 when 1 pip is a $0.10 move, as in this calculator. That is a $10 move in the gold price.

A calculator that counts a $0.01 move as one pip shows $1.00 for the same 100 pips, because its 100 pips is only a $1 move.

How do you calculate pip value by hand?

Multiply the pip size by the size of 1 lot, and then by your lot size. On EURUSD, 0.0001 × 100,000 gives $10 for 1 lot, so 0.10 lot is $1.

When the second currency of the pair is not the US dollar, the result is in that currency, and you turn it into dollars at the current rate, as the calculator does.

Which Page Do You Need Next?

If you are planning a trade, the lot size calculator turns your stop-loss and the dollars you are ready to lose into a lot size. The pip value guide explains what a pip is worth pair by pair, and the gold pip guide shows how to count a move on gold.

How the pip calculator works +−
Pip value
The size of 1 pip × the size of 1 lot × your lot size. The result is in the second currency of the instrument, and the calculator turns it into US dollars at the middle of the current buy and sell prices.
Pip size
Currency pairs with five or three decimals: 0.0001, or 0.01 on yen pairs. Pairs with four or two decimals: the last decimal. Gold: $0.10. Silver, platinum, palladium, oil, commodities and bonds: 0.01. Stock indices and crypto: 1 point, a move of 1.0.
Lot size
The contract size in the MT5 symbol specification of our trading accounts at each broker. On the XM Micro and Ultra Low Micro accounts, 1/100 of the Standard lot.
Any broker
Standard lot sizes: the instruments and lot sizes of the XM Standard account, under names that most brokers use, such as US30 and WTI.
Prices
From the MT5 servers of XM, HFM, XS and Exness, refreshed through the day. Updated, at the top of the calculator, shows the time in UTC. The figures in this article come from the size of 1 pip and the size of 1 lot, so they stay the same when the price moves.

Lot sizes checked on 14 October 2026. Prices change all the time, so the calculator always uses the latest ones.
