Data sources and calculation methodology
Data sources and conversion to US dollars
Margin is the deposit your account holds for an open order, and it comes back when the order closes. We read the symbol settings and prices separately from Standard, Pro, Raw Spread and Zero MT5 demo accounts held in USD.
Exness states that demo and live accounts have the same trading conditions, so the tool uses demo account data. Exness’s explanation of demo and live accounts (opens in a new tab)
Instruments that follow your account leverage: lots × contract size ÷ leverage, converted to US dollars at the saved price for your direction. Instruments with a fixed rate: lots × contract size × price × rate, so a 5% rate works as fixed leverage of 1:20. Instruments priced in USDT count USDT as 1 US dollar. Labels and timestamps
- Latest sample
- The time the settings and prices were saved. All times are UTC. Older data appears when that time is more than an hour old while the market is open.
- Market closed
- The market for that instrument is closed, for example at the weekend, so the figure uses the last price before the close.
- Unconfirmed
- That side is waiting for a saved price or USD conversion in a later sample. The amount appears as soon as a sample includes it.
- Below the minimum lot / Above the maximum lot
- Your lot is below the minimum, or above the maximum, that Exness sets for that instrument. The label shows that limit, and the amount is still worked out in proportion, so you can adjust the lot before you order.
The equity limits, the HMR limits and the Unlimited conditions follow Exness’s published rules. Where an instrument’s HMR limit varies, the tool shows a range. Accounts with Exness (KE) have a maximum of 1:400.
Each figure is for one new position on its own. Positions you already hold, hedges and pending orders can change the margin across your account. The tool estimates the scenario you choose, and your Personal Area shows which conditions apply to your own account.

Margin requirements are the same on all four Exness accounts

On 17 September 2026 we compared the saved margin settings for the 241 instruments that appear on two or more accounts. 233 needed the same margin on every account, and the other eight differed only through small price differences at that moment.
So choose the account for its trading costs, in the Exness spread calculator and the Exness swap calculator, and read the margin here on any account button.
When you search for one instrument, use the button for your own account. A few pairs appear on Standard and Pro only, and a few on Zero only.
Two ways Exness sets margin: your account leverage, or a fixed rate
The line under each amount shows which one applies. Exness calls them dynamic and fixed margin requirements, and the difference decides whether changing your account leverage changes the figure.
Follows your account leverage
- Shown in the tool as
- Leverage 1:2000
- Instruments
- Majors, minors, gold, silver, US dollar index
- Formula
- Lots × contract ÷ leverage
- EURUSD, 0.10 lot
- $5.74 at 1:2000 · $114.77 at 1:100
Fixed rate per instrument
- Shown in the tool as
- Fixed leverage 1:20
- Instruments
- Stocks, crypto, indices, exotic pairs, energies
- Formula
- Lots × contract × price × rate
- AAPL, 0.10 lot
- $167.82 at any leverage
Raise the leverage in Leverage & margin conditions and every green row falls together, while the amber rows stay where they are.
Most US stocks are set at 1:20, the main US indices and Bitcoin at 1:400, and USDTRY at 1:200. US oil (USOIL) has a rate of 0.05%, which reads as 1:2000, so its margin is small in normal conditions and jumps during HMR, when the limit is 1:20.
Margin for Gold, EURUSD, BTCUSD and US stocks by lot size
The margin scales with the lot size and moves with the price, so 0.01 lot needs one tenth of the 0.10 lot figure. Standard account, 1:2000, saved on 17 September 2026 at 17:32 UTC. Use the calculator above for today’s figures.

When Exness needs more margin: equity limits and HMR
Three conditions raise the figure above the normal one. They apply to the instruments that follow your account leverage, and the calculator lets you test each.
Leverage limits by account equity
| Account equity (USD) | Maximum leverage |
|---|---|
| Below 5,000 | 1:2000, or Unlimited if enabled |
| 5,000 to 29,999.99 | 1:2000 |
| 30,000 to 99,999.99 | 1:1000 |
| 100,000 or more | 1:500 |
Type your equity into Account equity (USD) and the tool applies the cap. With USD 50,000 of equity, 0.10 lot of gold needs $43.61 instead of $21.81. Exness leverage limits by equity (opens in a new tab)
Clients registered with the Kenyan entity have a cap of 1:400.
Higher margin requirements (HMR) around news and market breaks
- NewsOrders opened up to 15 minutes before and 90 seconds after a high-impact release.
- WeekendAbout 3 hours before and 1 hour after the break.
- Daily breaksIndices, oil, gold, silver and stocks, for a set period each day.
- Open ordersKeep their margin, except stocks around company results.

Unlimited leverage: what the calculator assumes
Unlimited leverage on a real account
- Equity
- Below USD 5,000
- Trading history
- 10 closed orders, 5 lots in total
- Instruments
- Majors, minors, US dollar index, USDCNH, HKDJPY, USDHKD, USDTHB, gold, silver
Choose Unlimited (if enabled) and those instruments read Near $0 while the equity you entered is below USD 5,000. Everything else keeps its normal margin.
The tool assumes the setting is active, and your Personal Area shows whether your account qualifies. Exness Unlimited leverage conditions (opens in a new tab)
Three things to check before you place the order
The order window on your platform gives the final figure. When it differs from the tool, one of these is usually the reason.
- The time. The tool uses the saved price under Latest sample. Prices move, and margin on account-leverage instruments moves with them.
- Your leverage and equity. Set the leverage shown in your Personal Area and enter your current equity, so the cap applies.
- HMR. If the chart in Exness Terminal shows an HMR period, tick the HMR box and read the figure again.
Two more points help here. A fully hedged position needs no margin, and a partly hedged one needs margin only on the unmatched lots. An account held in a currency other than USD shows the same figure converted at the platform’s rate. With those checked, plan around the number in the order window.
Rebates on your Exness trades
A rebate returns part of the spread and commission on every trade, paid separately from the margin. The Exness rebate guide explains the rates and the payments.
To open a new Exness account, use the button below. If you already have an Exness account and want to use the rebate service, the guide above explains how to link it.
Frequently asked questions about Exness margin
- What is the difference between required margin and margin level on Exness?
-
Required margin is the amount set aside to open a position, which this calculator estimates. Margin level is the health of the whole account: equity ÷ margin in use, as a percentage.
- At what margin level does Exness send a margin call or stop out?
-
Margin call: 60% on Standard and Standard Cent, 30% on Pro, Raw Spread and Zero. Stop out: 0% on every account. Positions stay open until equity reaches zero, so treat the margin call as the point to act. Exness Standard account conditions (opens in a new tab)
- Does the calculator show the maximum leverage I can use?
-
It uses the leverage you choose and applies the equity cap, then shows what the trade needs at that setting. Your Personal Area shows the maximum on your own account and whether Unlimited is enabled.
