Margin from HFM MT5 symbol settings and prices, with HFM’s published leverage rules, in US dollars.

Data sources and calculation methodology +−

Data sources and conversion to US dollars

Margin is the deposit your account holds for an open order, and it comes back when the order closes. We read the symbol settings and prices separately from Premium, Pro, Zero and Unlimited MT5 accounts held in USD.

Currencies and gold: lots × contract size ÷ leverage, converted to US dollars at the saved price for your direction. Other instruments: lots × contract size × price ÷ the instrument’s leverage, or the fixed amount per lot where MT5 sets one.

HFM rules applied on top of MT5

The tool adds the equity steps, the lower leverage around news and market open or close, the volume bands for crypto and 24/7 gold from each instrument page, and the lot limits of the Unlimited account. HFM applies the volume bands when an order is placed, and the tool works out each band at its own leverage. HFM legal documents (opens in a new tab)

Labels and timestamps

Latest sample
The time the settings and prices were saved. All times are UTC. Older data appears when that time is more than an hour old while the market is open.
Market closed
The market for that instrument is closed, for example at the weekend, so the figure uses the last price before the close.
Unconfirmed
That side is waiting for a price or conversion in a later sample, and the amount appears once it arrives.
Below the minimum lot / Above the maximum lot
Your lot size is outside the saved limits for that instrument, and the figure is scaled in proportion.

Checked on 18 September 2026 (UTC). This date is separate from the tool’s data update times.

HFM leverage goes up to 1:2000 and steps down as your equity grows

Account equity (USD)Maximum leverage
Below 5,0001:2000
5,000 to 39,999.991:1000
40,000 to 99,999.991:500
100,000 or more1:200

Equity is your balance plus open profit or loss, swaps and commissions, and HFM moves the maximum automatically. At 1:2000, 0.10 lot of EURUSD needs $5.73 with USD 1,000 and $57.33 with USD 150,000. Type your equity into Account equity (USD) and the tool applies the step.

Premium, Pro and Zero all offer up to 1:2000. On accounts with USD 300,000 or more of equity and over 50 lots open, HFM can also set 1:75 and tells you by email. HFM legal documents (opens in a new tab)

Margin rules are the same on Premium, Pro and Zero

Same on every account

  • Maximum leverage 1:2000 and the equity steps
  • Leverage or margin rate per instrument
  • Margin call 50%, stop out 20%

Different by account

  • Spread and commission
  • Swap
  • Small price differences, mostly on crypto

On 18 September 2026 we compared the saved margin settings for all 339 instruments on the three accounts. The rate, the calculation type and the contract size matched on every one, and the figures differed only through small price differences at that moment.

So choose the account for its trading costs, in the HFM spread calculator and the HFM swap calculator, and read the margin here on any of the three buttons. The Unlimited account works differently and has its own section further down.

Only currencies and gold follow your account leverage

The line under each amount shows which of three rules applies, and the rule decides whether changing your leverage changes the figure.

These rows read Fixed leverage, and your account leverage takes over when it is lower. At 1:100, 0.10 lot of USA30 needs $51.68 instead of $5.17, while silver stays at $66.52 because its own limit is already 1:100.

HFM sets leverage on crypto and 24/7 gold (XAUUSD247) by the total lots you hold in each symbol. 1 lot of Bitcoin needs $140.35: the first 0.2 lot at 1:1000 and the other 0.8 lot at 1:500. Open a crypto row in the calculator to see its bands. HFM crypto instrument pages (opens in a new tab)

HFM applies these bands when the order is placed, so the margin figure inside MT5 can read lower. The calculator works out each band at its own leverage: use its crypto figures as an estimate to plan with, and check the margin used on your account once the order is open.

Margin for gold, EURUSD, US30 and Bitcoin by lot size

Premium account, 1:2000, Buy, USD 1,000 of equity, saved on 18 September 2026 at 13:03 UTC. The margin scales with the lot size and moves with the price, except on crypto, where larger volumes step into lower leverage. Use the calculator above for today’s figures.

HFM lowers leverage around news and market open or close

News and daily open or close

  • NewsFrom 15 minutes before to 5 minutes after a major release on the instrument.
  • Currencies1 hour either side of the daily rollover.
  • Gold and indices1 hour either side of each market’s open and close.

Tick Estimate for news and session times to see the figure under these limits. 0.10 lot of EURUSD then needs $38.22 instead of $5.73, and 0.10 lot of gold $145.51 instead of $21.83.

24/7 gold has its own rule during major news and from Sunday 23:00 to Monday 02:00 server time: 1:100 for the first 5 lots and 1:1 above. HFM can also lower leverage on stocks and indices around company results. HFM legal documents (opens in a new tab)

Monday, first 10 minutes1:100
Monday, 10 minutes to 1 hour1:200
Friday, 1 hour to 30 minutes before close1:200
Friday, last 30 minutes1:100

These limits cover positions opened in each window, on every instrument, and the same pattern runs around weekday holidays. For trades placed in these windows, set 1:100 or 1:200 in the calculator.

Within these limits the margin is close to zero. Each limit counts every open position in its class, and every class has its own. Above the limit, new positions use the leverage for your equity: with USD 1,000, 6 lots of EURUSD need $57.33, the margin for the sixth lot.

HFM sets the leverage on this account, so it has no leverage change option. The margin call comes at 20% and stop out at 0%.

The account is meant for trades that carry market risk, and its terms treat set-ups that remove that risk, such as hedging across accounts or closing one side of a hedge before news, as a breach that can cost the unlimited leverage.

HFM offers the account as InfinityX to residents of India, from USD 250, and as KATANA, for example on its Japanese site, from USD 500, with the same trading conditions. Choose Unlimited in the calculator to see its figures. HFM Unlimited account (opens in a new tab)

How to change your leverage on HFM

  1. In myHF, open My Trading Accounts and click the gear icon on the account’s row, then Change Leverage.
  2. Choose the new value under New Leverage and click Request.
  3. Click Change Leverage in the confirmation window. It closes after a few seconds, so confirm straight away.
  4. Log in to MT5 again to see the margin at the new leverage.

Each account allows 30 successful changes, and support@hfm.com handles any beyond that. You can raise the leverage at any time. To lower it, you need no margin in use or a margin level above 100%, and demo accounts can change as often as you like.

The list runs from 1:2000 down to 1:1 in 14 settings, the same ones the calculator offers. HFM legal documents (opens in a new tab)

How many lots can you open with your balance?

This calculator shows the margin for a lot size you choose. For the reverse, the largest position your balance can open at your leverage, use the Max Lot & Zero-Cut Calculator. It also shows how far the price can move before a 0% stop out, the level on the Unlimited account.

The max lot tool uses one leverage for the whole position. Bring its lot size back here to check HFM’s equity steps, crypto bands and news limits before you trade.

Three things to check before you place the order

The order window on your platform gives the final figure. When it differs from the tool, one of these is usually the reason.

  1. The time. The tool uses the saved price under Latest sample. Prices move, and margin moves with them.
  2. Your leverage and equity. Set the leverage shown in myHF and enter your current equity, so the step applies.
  3. News and session times. Near a major release or a market open or close, tick the news box, or set 1:100 or 1:200 around the weekly open and close.

Two more points can change the figure in your account: a fully hedged position needs no margin on the matched volume, and an account held in a currency other than USD shows the margin in that currency. With those checked, plan around the number in the order window.

Rebates on your HFM trades

A rebate returns part of the spread and commission on every trade, paid separately from the margin. The HFM rebate guide explains the rates and the payments.

To open a new HFM account, use the button below. If you already have an HFM account and want to use the rebate service, the guide above explains how to link it.

Frequently asked questions about HFM leverage and margin

At what margin level does HFM call margin or stop out?

On Premium, Pro and Zero, the margin call comes at 50% and stop out at 20%. On the Unlimited account, they come at 20% and 0%. Margin level is your equity divided by the margin in use. HFM account comparison (opens in a new tab)

Do hedged positions need margin on HFM?

A fully hedged position, the same volume bought and sold on one instrument, needs no margin for the matched volume. A partial hedge needs margin on the difference, and closing one side brings the normal margin back. HFM FAQ (opens in a new tab)

Why is crypto margin higher here than in MT5?

HFM sets crypto leverage by volume when the order is placed, while MT5 uses one saved rate. The calculator follows HFM’s bands, so 1 lot of Bitcoin reads $140.35 here and $77.97 at the MT5 rate.
